Creative Producer, Sagal Abdullahi has championed non-mainstream histories and community-led heritage through a multitude of creative mediums and artistic workshops.

For International Women’s Day, the grass-roots community organiser’s most recent zine-making workshop focused on the theme of ‘Give to Gain’. With all proceeds helping to fund marginalised Somalian students within University of Southern Somalia.

Since The Anti-Tribalism Movement became established in 2010, the non-profit organisation launched London’s first permanent exhibition space dedicated to preserving and showcasing British Somali culture. Since then, Culture House has provided a safe, inclusive space for the British Somalian community to celebrate their heritage.

The celebration, held at Culture House in Shepherd’s bush, allowed women to get creative and exchange knowledge before indulging in some hot Somalian food and tea for iftar. But what does the theme of this workshop mean for the Somalian Community as they approach the end of Ramadan?
