The UK government has approved a police request to ban the annual Al Quds Day march in London, citing concerns about serious public disorder.

The Metropolitan Police said the event, organised by the Islamic Human Rights Commission, could draw in a large numbers of protesters and counterprotesters amid tensions linked to the Middle East conflict. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood supported the ban, stating it was necessary to maintain public safety.

Organisers argue the march is a peaceful pro-Palestinian demonstration and say they will instead hold a stationary protest.
