Spotify data shows English-language music is losing its dominance on global charts, as

songs in 16 languages appeared in the platform’s Global Top 50 last year, more than

double the number in 2020.

Spanish-language star Bad Bunny was the world’s most streamed artist, while Rosalía released an album featuring 14 dialects.

Genres such as Brazilian Funk, K-Pop and Trap Latino saw major growth. Spotify also reported paying $11bn in royalties last year. Despite global diversity, English still dominates most topselling albums, particularly in the UK.
