Vladimir Putin has attempted to buy enough votes to fix the results of Moldova’s EU referendum and presidential election but failed.

Moldova has been a focus of Russian interference during its pivotal elections. On October 20, 2024, Moldova held a presidential election and a referendum on joining the European Union.  Russia has been accused of launching cyberattacks, spreading disinformation, and funding pro-Russian candidates to influence voters against EU integration. The "Yes" vote secured a slight majority with 50.39%, reflecting deep divisions in the country between pro-European and pro-Russian factions.
